Keyword
research plays a critical role in successful search engine optimization.
Selecting the most appropriate keyword search phrases a website should
be optimised for is ultimately the key to successful search engine
marketing.
A long-standing SEO industry tool to achieve this is called
WordTracker. This
is an online subscription service that provides real-time access to a database of over 300 million
searches made through search engines. WordTracker takes away the
guessing element & shows you the search terms or keywords people are
really using. Those are the keywords you should optimize your
website for.
Simple example: You have a website selling mobile phones. If you
didn't do keyword research you might not realise that cell phones is
searched on 5 X more than mobile phones. If you didn't know
that & failed to optimize your website for both terms it
could cost you a lot of missed sales.
WordTracker
is used by
many search engine marketing
professionals because it's such a useful tool for keyword research.
If you're doing your own search engine marketing in-house then we
recommend you also utilise this or a similar tool.
Recently a very cool new
keyword research tool called KeywordDiscovery has come on to the market. Many SEOs including us are switching to it from WordTracker. The reason is that
it is a significantly more powerful research tool.
WordTracker is very good. But KeywordDiscovery raises the bar
significantly.
For example it has 12 months
of data, unlike WordTracker's 3 months, so seasonal trends can be seen. In
addition the KeywordDiscovery database of search terms is substantially bigger - 26
billion
compared to 300 million for WordTracker. The monthly subscription cost for
KeywordDiscovery is $49.95, which is pretty much identical to WordTracker who
charge £28.00.
Both services offer subscriptions for varying lengths of time,
so you can select the most appropriate depending on your requirements. We have an annual subscription because we use it
all the time, however if you're working on just one website then a subscription
for a month may well be all you need.
Free trials are available for both services:
