Google have done a fantastic job to make AdWords easy to
set up & use. Overture - the other big PPC player - is a real dog
to use in comparison.
Despite Google's sterling efforts, AdWords does have some nuances and
it takes time to master. Often people waste a lot of time & money learning by trial and error.
It's easy to spend far more money than you need to. Let's not forget
Google is a publicly listed company which earns most of its revenue from
AdWords. It's in their interest to make it easy for you to spend as much
as possible with them.
One way to avoid this problem and ensure you get the most of out your budget is employ an expert to set up and manage your PPC campaigns.
Viz Marketing does this for a lot of clients and our fees are more than covered by the money we save clients plus the increased sales they generate.
But outsourcing doesn't suit everybody - especially those with
smaller budgets. So the other option is to up-skill yourself and then do
it in-house. Here's the best way to up-skill yourself ...
Free AdWords Course Leading AdWords expert Perry Marshall has written a very helpful course
called "5 days to success with
Google AdWords". It's free and will save you a bundle of time &
money.
A lot of so-called "courses" contain very little real
content of value & in reality are thinly veiled sales pitches for
products and services. Rest assured. This course is not at all like that
- it contains real nuggets of invaluable information you can immediately
apply to improve your AdWords campaigns
Further Information
If you do want more information after doing the course Perry Marshall
has written an excellent book called
The
Definitive Guide to Google AdWords. I highly recommend it. Other AdWords guides
are available, but most are junk. The only other good one is by
Andrew Goodman. You don't need to buy both books & it's debatable
which is the better. Personally I much prefer Perry Marshall's writing style.
On the subject of Andrew Goodman - something I
most definitely recommend purchasing is an excellent guide his colleague
Mona Elesseily has written for the
other important PPC search engine Yahoo Search Marketing (Overture).
Overture is a much harder to deal with than AdWords & this guide
provides invaluable advice. Highly recommended - available
here.
